ABOUT OUR UNIVERSITY

History

In 1998, Satyanarayana Dasa, an illustrious alumnus of IIT Delhi and a profound scholar of Sanskrit, felt a deep calling to bridge the ancient Vedic wisdom with the contemporary world. Officially recognized in 2004 in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, the institute sprawls across three serene buildings nestled in the spiritual heart of Vrindavan. Over the years, it has opened its doors to students from India and beyond, all keen to dive deep into Vedic literature.

The institute’s library deserves a special mention. With a collection surpassing 10,000 books, including many rare editions and ancient manuscripts on palm leaves and handmade paper, it serves as a reservoir of knowledge, drawing scholars from various disciplines.

The Jiva Institute draws inspiration from Sri Jiva Gosvami. The term “Jiva” symbolizes a living entity, embodying the institute’s mission: addressing the profound existential inquiries of humans, primarily our quest for eternal happiness. Through writings like the Sandarbhas, Sri Jiva Gosvami provided solutions to life’s intricacies based on the authoritative Vedic scriptures.

Recognizing the value of Jiva Gosvami’s teachings and understanding the challenges posed by the Sanskrit language for the modern reader, Dr. Satyanarayana Dasa launched the Jiva Institute. With a dedicated team, he has worked relentlessly in translating, elucidating, and publishing works of Jiva Gosvami and other luminaries of the Gaudiya school.
